We’re not into gambling, but Las Vegas seemed like a great place to fly our kids for their spring break. Of course there are lots of ways to spend money in Vegas, and we enjoyed some great shows, walking the strip, and delicious buffets. But for our video we decided to focus on three great Las Vegas day trips (well – one night trip) that were the highlights of our stay.
Valley of Fire State Park is stunning and offers great hiking opportunities for all levels of fitness. We even brought our little dog Mitzi along! But get there early. Like so many “remote” sites, it really begins to fill up by late morning.
Death Valley National Park was a real surprise for us. We expected nothing more than a huge, flat desert. And while you can find that, we also discovered plenty of rocks to climb and trails to hike with the kids. And, most surprising of all, pools of standing water at the lowest place on earth!
Finally, the Freemont Street Experience is a free outdoor extravaganza, open every night in “old” Vegas. Between street performers, multiple stages, and a crazy awesome light show, this is a don’t-miss experience. You can even ride a zip line over the crowd – for a price!
We stayed at the Thousand Trails RV Park in Las Vegas. It’s pretty tightly packed, but what do you expect in an urban setting? It more than met our needs.
