Affordable Power with the Renogy Portable Solar Suitcase

2020-05-01
On: May 1, 2020

In this blog we explain why we bought a Renogy 200 watt solar suitcase, and how to decide if portable solar power is right for you. You can see a great summary in our video! Although Kathy and I have camped almost exclusively in state, county, and private campgrounds, we know that some of the most beautiful campsites in the U.S. are free. Most of these are on state or federal land, often in remote locations with stunning views. Most allow two-weeks stays. But there’s a catch. No hookups! No running water. No electricity. No sewer connections. This is affectionately called boondocking. Now, in ourRead More →

Top 5 Tips for Visiting Zion National Park

2020-04-18
On: April 18, 2020

Zion National Park is one of the most visited national parks in the United States, and for very good reason. It is home to some of the most beautiful scenery, majestic mountains, fascinating wildlife, and natural wonders you’re ever likely to find in one reasonably accessible place. We spent three days camping in and exploring Zion, and here are some of our best tips to get the most out of your visit: 1. Camp inside of the park. If at all possible, reserve a campsite at one of Zion’s two campgrounds (Watchman Campground has full hook-ups, while South campground is primitive), or rent a roomRead More →

Kathy Learns to Drive the RV!

2020-04-11
On: April 11, 2020

I (Kathy) was happy being the navigator while Jeff drove our 37-foot Class A coach, fondly named Windy. On the other hand, Jeff happy being the sole driver? Not so much. The first time I drove Windy was three years ago. I’d had a lesson from a guy who it turned out had no idea that I needed to learn how to back into a campsite, maneuver around low branches, and drive on both interstates and narrow back roads. But at least I’d had a lesson. So on a rather deserted divided highway in rural Texas, I agreed that it was time for me toRead More →

Replacing an Atwood Water Heater Thermostat

2020-04-10
On: April 10, 2020

The water from our RV water heater was hot — too hot — 160 degrees hot. And much to our surprise, there was no way to adjust the built-in thermostat. Fortunately, Atwood does sell a replacement thermostat with adjustable settings, so during some down time, Jeff set out to install one. Rocket Launch at Cape Canaveral

2020-04-04
On: April 4, 2020

One of my (Jeff’s) earliest memories is sitting in front of our tiny black-and-white TV, watching John Glenn blast into space atop a Mercury rocket. Fast forward a few years and I remember the excitement of staying up late to watch Neil Armstrong become the first human to walk on the moon. But despite watching many rocket launches on TV, I had never been in the right place at the right time to see one in person. That is, until now. While at the Thousand Trails Orlando RV Resort, we learned that there would be a daytime rocket launch from Cape Canaveral during our stay.Read More →
