Five years ago, before we bought an RV and started “Miles and Smiles,” I wrote, and Kathy edited, a book entitled The Complete Guide to Renting an RV. It was a project that grew out of our own frustration when we were RV “newbies” and trying to find the information we wanted, needed, even yearned for about how to:
- Choose the right rental RV for you.
- Find and understand the best deal.
- Find the kinds of campgrounds we would enjoy.
- Plan an itinerary.
- Drive and park such a large vehicle.
- Handle utilities – especially the sewage system.
- What to pack and what to leave behind.
All the information was out there, but it was impossible to find it all in one place. So after renting multiple times, enjoying some awesome adventures, and making some embarrassing mistakes, we decided to collect together all that we had learned about renting an RV in one book. Our hope was, and remains, that we can help today’s newbies plan and enjoy the best RV rental vacation ever!
Since publishing the first edition, we’ve purchased an RV of our own, traveled thousands of miles back and forth across the U.S., and figured out a few things that we didn’t even know we needed to know! Meanwhile, some RV rental companies have gone out of business, others have grown and changed, and tens of thousands of new RVers have hit the road as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. After all, when you travel in an RV, social distancing is a lot easier than when you fly or stay in hotels. Now, we realized, is a good time for an update.
The Complete Guide to Renting an RV – 2nd Edition is now available on Amazon in both print and Kindle editions. The price is pretty reasonable ($2.99 for Kindle and $6.99 for print), and members of Kindle Unlimited can read it for free. If you’d like to dip your toes into the RV experience, or know someone else who’s thinking about RV travel, we hope you’ll find this guide helpful. And if you’ll leave a comment about the book on Amazon, we’ll be exceedingly grateful.
